Swiss detain two more FIFA officials suspected of taking millions in bribes
ZURICH: The Swiss government said two FIFA officials were detained in Zurich Thursday, confirming reports of new arrests in the broadening FIFA scandal, and said they were suspected of accepting millions of dollars in bribes.

"The high-ranking FIFA officials are alleged to have taken the money in return for selling marketing rights in connection with football tournaments in Latin America, as well as World Cup qualifying matches," the Swiss justice ministry said in a statement.

"They are being held in custody pending their extradition," said Switzerland's Federal Office of Justice (FOJ).

"According to the US arrest requests, they are suspected of accepting bribes of millions of dollars."

The FOJ said it would issue another statement with the names of those who have been arrested later on Thursday.—Agencies
